WE’RE BACK! Science Showoff Autumn 2012

HELLO! You’re looking very tanned. Have you had a lovely Summer holiday? You are looking HOT. Did you miss us? We missed you too.

After a very busy Summer taking Science Showoff on tour across the UK, we are BACK IN LONDON from September, and are opening up our sign up slots to everyone for all of our gigs until DECEMBER! Diaries out, we have four dates to put in there including a very special Science Showoff in November…

If you are new to Science Showoff, you should read this:
If you, like me, have the attention span of a hyperactive butterfly and don’t want to read that, all you need to know is that it is a monthly open mic night for scientists and science communicators. Each gig has ten performers, who all have nine minutes (counted down by our amazing Showometer) to share some science with the audience in any way, shape or form that they like, whether that be through the medium of song, dance, demo or talk. The brilliant thing about Science Showoff is that anything goes! Our gigs are held at the Wilmington Arms (http://www.thewilmingtonarms.co.uk – map: http://bit.ly/M0Sy2R), with doors opening at 7pm. Our gigs tend to be very busy, so if you are thinking of coming down, please do get there early to grab a seat or a bit of bar to prop up. Entry to Science Showoff is free however we do collect for a local charity at each gig, with a suggested donation of £5. Science, entertainment, and giving something back. A feelgood hattrick if ever I saw one.

While gig rules are exactly the same as the 2011/2012 season, we have decided to add a few more rules for our performers leading up to December:

RULE 1: Sign up is now open to three of our four gigs until December 2012. Please only sign up to perform at ONE of these gigs. This gives other people a chance to perform if they have not yet done so already. We know that there are lots of people out there that have not yet performed and WE WANT TO SEE YOU STRUT YOUR STUFF!

RULE 2: If you have previously performed during the 2011/2012 season and sign up for our 2012/2013 gigs, please can you perform a new set. We loved your first sets. They were the ‘Muse’s Showbiz’ of the Science Communication world. Amazing, new, innovative, fun. However, we know that you are capable of so much more. Like Muse, first album good, second album better. We want to see your ‘Origin of Symmetry’ sets in 2012, complete with metaphoric Plug In Baby riff. Bigger, better, and even more epic.

Hands up if you’re now already looking forward to our 2015 ‘The Resistance’ season! Just me then…

In addition to all of this awesomeness, we have some treats lined up for non-London based Showoffs. More news to come, so please do keep an eye out on Twitter (@ScienceShowoff) or Facebook (www.facebook.com/ScienceShowoff) for all the latest news, and incoherent ramblings between myself and Steve!

SEE YOU SOON! (Hopefully. If Steve doesn’t ban me from Showoff after ALL THE MUSE REFERENCES.)
